camera position/setup etc

Postby asakawa on Thu Dec 27, 2007 11:56 am

a few people have said that they struggle to film their tricks/combos and i thought it might be good to have a thread where we can give advice about how to get decent results.

i've tried a few different ways of filming my combos and, pretty much, come to the conclusion that i should just point the camera at a wall and stick my hand up in front of it. the problem, of course, is that this is a very different position than i'm usually in when i spin so i drop or get hung up about 4 times as often >.<
i wonder if people who film their stuff a lot have got good at, or even practiced, spinning in a filmable position

the good things about my setup are the fact that i have a decent jessops tripod and my camera doesn't need to be plugged in to my computer to record. the downside is that my camera needs a lot of extra lighting to be able to see the pen.

what setups do other people here use?

My set up is exactly the same as yours. except i use a camcorder.

It depends on the combo i'm doing when i'm filming, could be from any direction whichever looks the best i suppose..
I usually try to film in a position where i can spin normally in mah casual position.

that's what i've always found impossible. my natural spinning posistion is pretty much slouched on a sofa with the pen spinning over my body/knees.

maybe that's what i'm missing. i'm not at achool as most PSers seem to be so i've never really spun over a table.

Is it because you don't like to show your body while filming? Table solves this problem!
You can try and set your camera angle up like RYO's.

And the good thing about using a table is if the pen drops u dont have to bend over to pick it up or anything!

I'm kinda the same as you asakawa. Legs tucked up and opened, arm reaching through and spinning lazily? I can also spin over a table, either way is fine. I just need to find my pen.

i usually spin at the computer desk or while slouched on the sofa.Elbow on table. I find it unnatural position to spin in the frame of the camera as i dont have the luxury of a tripod. I usually just balance the camera on my head or tuck it in a head band. Its not ideal but it works for me.

Like how asakawa did so in PSUK 1st? ._. Nya~? Its hard to see what tricks the spinner is performing at times especially if you have a low fps cam. Nya~

lol, i was gonna say the same thing.
i was also gonna post the youtube video but, in fact, that was such a bad video that i've never uploaded my clip from psuk's 1st to youtube.

top down is a bad idea if you're gonna do palm up tricks. works great for an entirely palm down combo though.
